LaFleur Team Brings the Laugh to LaughFest

Chip LaFleur
Volunteering at Laughfest

Before I worked at LaFleur, I never realized how much impact a business’ volunteer efforts can have on a community. We believe that our service hours strengthen both our workplace and West Michigan. Not only that, but the LaFleur team makes it fun! I don’t feel like I’m working when we volunteer; I feel like I’m hanging out with my co-workers outside of the office while having a positive impact on those around us.

During the dreary month of March, our team had the opportunity to volunteer with LaughFest and turn a rainy, cold Saturday evening into a bright one full of smiles, laughs, and Cherry Chuckle cider. While we couldn’t enjoy the cider, we had lots of laughs too.

What is LaughFest?

Volunteering at LaughfestLaughFest is a ten-day festival put on by Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids, with events throughout West Michigan. Comedians like Jim Gaffigan, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Hart, Brian Regan, and Betty White, just to name a few, have all been LaughFest headliners.

There is a wide variety of funny that goes on for those ten days. Between stand-up shows, improv, family events, and showcases, the festival draws in roughly 50,000 adults and children every year.

LaughFest was started in March 2011 by the non-profit organization, Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids. The organization offers free emotional health care for children, adults, families, and friends on any kind of cancer journey or those grieving the death of someone in their life due to any cause. LaughFest proceeds support Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids programs that offer education, lectures, workshops, networking, structured sharing times, and social activities.

What Did Team LaFleur Do at LaughFest?

community service at LaughFestOur team had the honor of working a beverage garden at the Fountain Street Church before Amanda Seales’ stand-up show. LaFleur helped set up and tear down the beverage garden, checked guests’ IDs, handled money and ticket sales, and served Vander Mill Cherry Chuckle cider to guests.

In 2019, Vander Mill Cherry Chuckle, a cherry cider, was named as the official beverage of LaughFest. Vander Mill donated $1 to Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids for every pint or four-pack of Cherry Chuckle that was purchased.

The evening flew by, and although we didn’t go to the show, we shared a lot of laughs, poured a lot of cider, and raised hundreds of dollars for an amazing cause.

LaFleur Has a Deep Commitment to Volunteerism

Being involved in our community and being a helping hand is one of LaFleur’s core values. Every month, a LaFleur team member proposes a non-profit organization or project they feel passionately about, and we dedicate time to their cause.

I love how eager and devoted everyone on this team is to helping others. LaFleur works as a team inside and outside of the office, for our clients and out in the community.
